You recently published an opinion article that erroneously claimed that the Institute for Apprenticeships has “suggested that it may have to intervene if [employers] spend too little of their levy on apprenticeships for 16- to 19-year-olds who do not want to stay on at school or college” (“Engage universities or degree apprenticeship programme will fail”, 22 February).
The institute plays no role in the management of the apprenticeship levy, nor does it have powers to determine how employers should allocate their apprenticeship levy funding.
The institute is an independent, employer-led body that aims to improve access to high-quality apprenticeships for all people, regardless of age or educational background.
Sir Gerry Berragan
Chief executive
Institute for Apprenticeships
