In 2002 the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) founded Air University. Today the university remains under the management of PAF’s education command.
The university is located in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.
The university has five faculties offering both undergraduate and graduate courses. These include the Faculty of Aerospace Sciences and Strategic Studies, the Faculty of Avionics and Aeronautics, the Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences, the Faculty of Engineering, and the Faculty of Social Sciences. There is also the Air University School of Management, which offers a range of courses from accounting and finance to tourism and hospitality management.
Students studying in the engineering departments have the opportunity to enrich their learning through practical work in laboratories. Here they are able to conduct lab experiments that put into practice the theoretical concepts that are taught in the classroom. The university also uses these labs for research that contributes to the development of the local region and society as a whole.
Outside of the classroom there are numerous clubs, organisations and societies available for students to join. Some of these include the music society, Islamic society, and literary society.
Islamabad was purpose built in the 1960s as a planned city to replace Karachi as Pakistan’s capital. Islamabad is home to a number of cultural landmarks including the Faisal Mosque, which is the fourth largest mosque in the world, Pakistan’s National Monument and Democracy Square. The city is also known for its abundant greenery in the form of parks and forests, such as Margalla Hills National Park and Shakarparian Park.
