The Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology is a leading institute approved by the University Grants Commission in Sri Lanka.
It was established in 1999 when the institute welcomed 400 students to their Metro Campus in Colombo. Now, the university has over 9,000 students from all over the world.
The courses are designed to give graduates the skills to excel in modern workplaces through a combination of practical and theoretical learning. The university's industry internship programmes work with local and multinational companies to give students the opportunity to gain industry experience, enhance their employability and gain a greater understanding of the workplace.
The Institute has two main campuses, Metro and Malabe, as well as the SLIIIT Academy, Matara Centre, Kandy Centre, Kurungala Centre, and Jaffna Centre.
The Institute has eight faculties: architecture; business; computing; engineering; graduate studies and research; hospitality and culinary studies; humanities and sciences and law.
Students have access to a gymnasium and recreation centre. There are a variety of sporting clubs on offer to students, including: basketball, tennis, carom, karate and volleyball. Students can also choose to join an extracurricular society such as: gavel, rotaract, drama, student chapter, and engineering research and innovation.
The Institute also offers professional development programmes to members of the community in the form of workshops and short-term courses. Courses can be taken in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, Project Management, and Cisco Networking, to name but a few.
