The University of Mons is based in Belgium.
The university was formed in 2009, as part of wider reforms in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation region of Belgium, through the merger of the engineering faculty and the University of Mons-Hainault (founded in 1965). It is now co-president of the Pole Hainuyer federation of three universities, six specialist institutions and 26 continuing education bodies providing around 600 courses to adults across Hainault.
The university has campuses in Mon and Charleroi.
Around 100 degree courses are provided by the faculties of architecture and urban planning, medicine and pharmacy, engineering, psychology and education, translation and interpretation, science, business and management and schools of law, teacher training and humanities and social sciences.
Research institutions, many of which are based at the Initialis Science Park on the edge of Mons, focus on topics such as risk management and complex systems.
UMONS has around 300 international partnerships in more than 50 countries. Around a quarter of the studnet population is international from 73 different countries.
