Is choice of university all about salary or location? University or department? Reputation or culture? City or country? And are the things that lure academics and professional staff to particular universities the same as the factors that keep them there?

There are the issues that are explored in THE’s annual set-piece survey this year. The? aims to cast greater light on the institutional and geographical factors that draw and retain university staff – and the relationship between them.?Is it all about the institution, or is the location ultimately important?

We hope that the results will add to to a fascinating picture of what academics and professional services staff really look for when considering a move. It will give universities pointers on what to focus on, and will lead to a more informed picture of how the factors that institutions can control weigh up against those that they cannot.

To take part in the survey, go to?

Almost all the questions are multiple choice, and the survey need take no more than about 10 minutes of your time?– although there is also the opportunity to leave longer comments if you feel strongly about particular issues. You may also leave your contact details if you are willing to talk?to a THE reporter in more detail about these important issues.

The results?will be presented in a feature article later in the year (see the links below for examples of previous survey write-ups). They may also be presented at our World Academic Summit, scheduled to take place in Toronto in September.
