World Academic Summit

In this session from the 2017 Times Higher Education World Academic Summit, senior higher education figures examine the strategies that research-intensive universities and governments are embracing to promote greater social inclusivity. Can higher education systems adequately support and maintain elite institutions that are accessible to people from all backgrounds? Should leading universities be measured by their research output or by the diversity of their student intake?

Speaking on the panel: Lord Willetts, visiting professor, King’s College London; Sir Michael Barber, chairman, Office for Students (UK); Carol Folt, chancellor, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Ihron Rensburg, vice-chancellor, University of Johannesburg; and Sir Nigel Thrift, executive director, Schwarzman Scholars.

The 2017 World Academic Summit was held in partnership with King’s College London in September 2017. You can access more coverage from the event here.
