Founded in 1999, Al-Hussein Bin Talal University was the first higher educational institute established during the reign of H.M. King Abdullah II. Initially established as a branch for Mu’tah University, it later moved to a permanent campus in September 2004.
Situated in Ma'an, a city in southern Jordan, the university serves as the capital of the Ma'an Governorate. It acts as a regional trade centre for the sparsely populated southern region of the country.
The university encompasses nine colleges and two deanships, each contributing to a diverse range of academic disciplines.
Research is a core part of the university's activities, conducted at various research centres, including the Academic Development and Quality Assurance Centre, the Renewable Energy Research and Development Centre, and the Al Anbat Centre for Archaeological Studies. The International Relations Office facilitates international partnerships and collaborations.
