Azerbaijan State University of Economics was established in 1930. Since then it has developed into one of the largest higher education institutions in the Caucasus region.
There are nine faculties available at the university with 21 specialities for bachelor and masters students to choose from. These include ecology, economics, finance, marketing, and statistics. The university is the only one in Azerbaijan to offer teaching at both undergraduate and graduate level in four languages, Azerbaijani, English, Russian, and Turkish.
Students at the university are given the opportunity to study abroad for a semester as part of its exchange programme. The university currently has partnerships with almost 100 universities from 32 different countries. Its own student body consists of more than 850 international students, representing 12 countries between them.
On top of their studies, students enjoy participating in the university’s sport life. There is a range of sports available for students to get involved in including basketball, football, table tennis, volleyball and wrestling. The university has state-of-the-art recreational facilities, which are used to host national and international competitions.
The university is located in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. As the country’s largest city, Baku has become Azerbaijan’s cultural, industrial and scientific centre. It is also the lowest lying national capital in the world, lying 28 metres below sea level. Baku’s old city has a long and rich history, which has been preserved by cultural landmarks including the Palace of the Shirvanshahs and the Maiden Tower, both of which attract increasing numbers of tourists every year.
