The data portal for the Times Higher Education Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) University Rankings 2024 is?now open, with institutions from across the region invited to?take part.
Interested universities can now submit data to be?included in?the second edition of?the ranking. The portal will be?open for two months, closing on 30?March.
Data submission is open to all universities in the region that teach undergraduates. There are no fees to participate, but institutions must submit data through the portal and distribute a student survey to their students; only universities for?which we collect at?least 50?valid survey responses will be ranked.
Advice and guidance on how to submit institutional data is available on the portal. After their submission, universities may be contacted to verify their data.
A publication date for the ranking is yet to be confirmed, but is likely to be in late 2024.
The SSA University Rankings have been developed specifically to address the challenges faced by higher education institutions in sub-Saharan Africa, in a?project initiated by a consortium of African and international higher education organisations and companies.
In November, we announced improvements to the methodology. New metrics on leadership, ethics and African heritage have been added and, to?accommodate these, the overall structure of the methodology has been tweaked.
A total of 121 universities participated in the data collection for the inaugural edition of the ranking, which was published last June.
As well as drawing on data provided directly by universities and collected from current students (via the student survey), the ranking also uses bibliometric data supplied by our partner Elsevier.
This year, the student survey will be distributed in four languages: English, French, Swahili and Portuguese.
