Falling from favour

January 26, 2017

Re Marguerite Dennis¡¯ blog post ¡°Dwindling US international student numbers? Don¡¯t blame Trump!¡± (19 January, www.timeshighereducation.com). The most significant factor that has caused the US to lose market share in the realm of international higher education is its lack of a coherent and effective immigration policy.

Based on Donald Trump¡¯s statements related to immigration, his presidency will significantly exacerbate the already serious problem facing US higher education. Admittedly, Trump did not create this problem, but he will make it worse. And given all the other factors that are mentioned in the article, it could be a very rough time for the world¡¯s number one international education destination.
