I never thought I¡¯d be agreeing with him, but when Donald Trump said that ¡°political correctness¡has transformed our institutions of higher education from ones that fostered spirited debate to a place of extreme censorship¡± (¡°Enter, stage right¡±, Features, 19 January), I found myself doing just that.
Too many people are so eager to pander to those who choose to take offence at the tiniest thing that it gets in the way of open debate.
There are no safe spaces in the real world; if you do not care for something that someone else says, you need to be able to argue against their views, not silence them by choosing to take offence at what they said.
