It was disappointing to see the rather negative coverage of the recent pay deal ("Pay deal could mean job cuts", June 9), particularly as all sides had worked so hard to reach a positive conclusion.
The deal means significant pay increases for all staff in higher education and an end to the uncertainty and disruption for students. As such, most higher education staff will welcome it, as will students and their families.
Ucea has not "recommended that employers restore pay". But it does recognise that the UCU has a clear view that good industrial relations can be restored only when issues relating to the withholding of pay are resolved.
