David Latchman (Letters, THES , January 23) makes a plea for a funding review of part-time students. What is needed is not a perpetuation of the divisive distinction between part-time and full-time study that the higher education bill makes worse, but an instruction from the Department for Education and Skills to the Higher Education Funding Council for England to devise a unified modular funding system that makes mode of study irrelevant to the decisions of students and institutions.
