There is currently chaos on university campuses. The dispute is causing deep divisions and anger. One way to break the deadlock is for vice-chancellors to hand back the large increases they have had in their salaries over the past few years, and commit themselves to accepting no higher increase in pay than they are willing to offer to their staff.
