I note that Lord Hutton's plans for public sector pensions mean that university staff would have to work longer to get full pensions ("Peer's pension advice signals end to final-salary deals", www.timeshighereducation.co.uk, 10 March). I take it then that the days of the professor emeritus are numbered, since they will still be doing the day job, as it were.
