I was sorry to read about Alice Smyth's plight, but some of the problem is reflected in her references to her contact with careers advisers "before or since university". Didn't she use her careers service while at university?
Smyth talks about visiting the JobCentre, but she might find jobs more suited to her experience and qualifications by visiting the national universities careers services' website ( ) or any of this summer's graduate recruitment fairs.
