Colleges understand the Ofsted inspection system, but senior managers in further education are largely unaware of the effort required for a QAA review. The secret of success is for the teaching staff to demonstrate they are in the same peer group as the reviewers. Higher education delivered in the context of a further education college must mimic that of a university. Staff need suitable postgraduate qualifications and need to be pursuing research to inform their teaching. The recipe is simple, but the implications are huge.
