Michael Scott, vice-chancellor of Glyndwr University, claims his institution is being brave and bold in having a "lower-cost, highly vocational" university education that will be "open to all" ("'Brave and bold' Glyndwr vows to be open to all", 1 September). I'm sorry, but this is simply reinventing the wheel. We used to have what Scott proposes: they were called "polytechnics".
