Can a university cost its quality processes ("Plymouth pays Pounds 1m for quality", THES , September 26)? Quality is embedded in what we do as individuals and corporate professionals. In setting up quality bureaucracies and fixing a price tag against them, institutions will take away individual responsibility. This threatens the development of a culture of embedded quality that ensures academic standards are safeguarded and that there is genuine enhancement.
