I suggest that the decision-makers in higher education would do well to make the connection between Tim Birkhead's article on shaking up the "dreadful inertia" in teaching and the piece on academics breaking out of the academy because of that inertia and its effects ("Great escapes", 12 August).
If Birkhead's suggestions about teaching graduates how to think were followed, we would have good academics fighting to get back in!
