Paul Roberts has a point (Letters, June 6). There are now many varieties of non-native English around the world, the majority of which do not conform to UK or US conventions.

As ever larger numbers of international students come to the UK, perhaps we should familiarise ourselves with the conventions of our students' Englishes rather than continue to demand their rigid conformity to a variety of English used by a relatively small number of people living on an island off mainland Europe.
