In discussing the melanic form of the peppered moth, Michael Majerus does little to support his claim that "Darwinian evolution is fact" (Soapbox, THES , August 8). Rather than present "the most famous example of Darwinian evolution", the moth simply displays the rich variation that has always existed in clearly defined species. However many varieties Majerus collects and observes, he will never be looking at anything other than a peppered moth.
