Why did Times Higher Education think it appropriate to announce a story about Germany providing extraordinary support to its students studying abroad as "Deutschland, Deutschland uber alles" (Contents, 25 March)? This, the first hymn of the German national anthem, is never sung officially and is usually associated with German nationalism. I thought Basil Fawlty was behind us, at least in THE.
