The Poppleton University approach to deciding on degree classifications by the tossing of a coin (Laurie Taylor, October 6) is of course entirely proper - save for one crucial factor that the institution appears to have overlooked. In the interests of fairness, it is essential that the tossing of the coin is always undertaken by the external examiner.
