In demand in Vietnam

Contrary to your report ("Vietnamese students snubbed on return home", THES , May 31), graduates with a UK qualification, whether self-funded or on scholarships, have been in high demand in the private and public sector.

The Vietnamese government is funding a five-year overseas scholarship scheme to upgrade scientific and technical staff in state and government organisations. Up to 400 students a year will study in more than ten countries, including the UK, the US, Australia, Russia, China, New Zealand, Germany, France and Canada.

This is in addition to scholarship schemes run with multilateral and bilateral project funding.
