At the Conservative Party Conference, law student Georgina Hill argued that taxpayers would get a better deal from having "less universities" and "less obscure and, frankly, worthless degrees" ("Universities next on Tory reform agenda", THES , October 11).

Let's hope that those universities that survive the purge are capable of teaching the correct use of "less" and "fewer".
