John Randall says it is time to put the interests of the consumer first (Soapbox, THES , August 24). It is great shame the QAA never seriously adopted this principle.

The University of Leeds has conducted its own survey of what it offers and gives all students a chance to have their say anonymously. I am sure this gives a better view of "consumer" opinion than anything the QAA has achieved.

The QAA made the mistake of concentrating on processes rather than outcomes and produced a system in which high scores are obtained for playing the QAA game well.
