Thank you for your report of Natfhe's conference ("Union campaigns to scrap QAA", THES , June 1). It was both informative and lively; rather like the event itself. But I was surprised to read your interpretation of the Institute for Learning and Teaching debate. Contrary to the impression given, the motion for a ?1,000 ILT incentive scheme was carried by a wide margin. There were 23 votes against and 30 in favour.
Two years ago the Bett report supported such a scheme to raise the status of teaching. Natfhe continues to support this aim, as do many of our members. In the same way we continue to support the ILT itself, as was also endorsed by conference.
