Your piece on higher education's three key interest groups ("Chips off the old bloc find their own voice", THES , September 6) put a welcome spotlight on my new role as chief executive of the Coalition of Modern Universities. However, for the sake of good relations with colleagues in the Russell and 1994 groups, I should point out that my remit does yet not extend to speaking on their behalf - despite your quotes suggesting otherwise towards the end of the story.
