Not in our front yard

Times Higher Education carried a review of a recent book published by Greenwood Press, Al-Qaeda Goes to College (23 April). Its subtitle is Impact of the War on Terror on American Higher Education. However, the cover of the book, pictured with the review, consists of an image of an apparent student wearing what might well be an Oxford mortar board and gown, and with his head and face covered in a keffiyeh. There are stars in the sky above, perhaps from the American flag. The image is also superimposed on a background that clearly depicts Liddon Quad at Keble College, Oxford.

We wish to distance ourselves completely from the use of this image, which was used without permission, and would like your readers to know that we consider it clearly defamatory. I am writing to the publishers to the same effect.

Averil Cameron, Warden, Keble College, Oxford.
