While I am aware that Daniel Vockins, the outgoing president of the University of Sussex student union, opposes the National Student Survey, he has failed to notice how the survey results have been deployed with notable effect by his own union (Letters, 3 July).
He claims that the National Union of Students "didn't contact" Sussex on the subject. In fact, his predecessor, Roger Hylton, told us about the successes achieved with the support of the NSS findings as part of the "Sort US out" campaign, and officials within the union have kept us informed of progress since.
I can only hope that his successor adopts an evidence-based approach to reach a more considered view of the benefits of the NSS.
Wes Streeting, National president, NUS.
