Oxford University's chan-cellor, Lord Patten, fully supports the institution's desire to reform its governance structure - but it is wrong to suggest that he is exhorting Cambridge University to follow in our footsteps ("Oxford critics round on Patten", October 28).
To describe his comments as a "warning" to Cambridge is to misunderstand them. Lord Patten merely pointed out that both universities are facing challenges of this kind, and the fact that Oxford is embracing them could be of benefit to Cambridge in the future.
