As someone who teaches and researches in pure biochemistry and sports and exercise science, I am used to my work in the latter area being trivialised by my more traditional colleagues.
Still, now that The THES has admitted that sports scientists are "ivory tower elitists" and "not interested in applied science" ( THES , November 29) I look forward to increased street credibility from my biological science colleagues and await the follow-up article on the elitism and practical irrelevance of media studies with bated breath.
