Questions of fairness and Israel 2

June 9, 2006

We are all members of the Association of University Teachers/University and College Union. We are also members of BRICUP, the British Committee for Universities in Palestine, an organisation committed to supporting our Palestinian academic colleagues and their institutions at a time when their academic freedoms are grossly restricted by Israeli government policies and actions, and to applying pressure on Israeli academia through a boycott.

We wish to express our deep regret that some AUT officials have seen fit to issue a statement, ostensibly on behalf of the association as a whole, distancing the AUT from the recent decision by sister union Natfhe to consider a boycott of Israeli academia.
