David Cesarani does not mention the pivotal part of the Left's critique of Israel - that it is a "settler-colonial state". This means that the entire "Zionist entity" founded in 1948 is illegitimate, and not just the post-1967 occupation.
I have, however, come across a few thoughtful socialists who have suggested that a Zionist state might be established on the North Pole or in the Amazon. It is odd that "settler-colonial states" such as Australia and Canada do not seem to be confronted by the same legitimacy problems.
