Red card for awards criticism 1

Your editorial "University own goals" (September 24) was poorly informed. The University of East Anglia has given honorary degrees to a number of organisations that meet the criteria we set for such awards. This reflects the reality that, in some cases, collective endeavour is a defining feature of success and that it is appropriate to recognise an organisation.

Norwich City FC fully deserved a doctorate of civil law for its contribution to our community as well as its achievements on the pitch. The crowd recognised this with the generosity, warmth and understanding that was wholly lacking in your sanctimonious comments.
