The accusations of the UK Independence Party about the UK's Jean Monnet Centres ("Shut Euro 'propaganda outlets', critics demand", February 6) are an insult to the staff's integrity. The problem facing the UKIP is that when the same high-quality research comes out of independently funded centres, they can no longer pretend the centres are mouthpieces for the European Commission. The UKIP aims to silence those whose work serves to highlight the xenophobic rantings of the extreme right.
