Cardiff University recently had to change the way its medical examination results are produced after a mistake led to four students graduating despite failing an exam.
The only way to stop this from happening would be to return all papers to students once they have been marked. If there has been an error, the first person to notice would be the student. Examining bodies go through tens of thousands of papers: the student goes through only one. It makes sense.
