It is unfortunate that you published Joan Roughgarden's very biased review of Michael Bailey's The Man who Would Be Queen (May 28).

Roughgarden has been part of a highly political campaign against Bailey's book for over a year. There are many transsexual women who concur fully with the autogynephilia concept cited by Bailey, myself included. As to the science, Bailey provides an anecdotal view of comprehensive research by Ray Blanchard, who used many subjects and produced 21 papers on the topic.

It is a pity to see Roughgarden's stance given stature by appearing on your pages.
