My sympathy goes to Simon Davies and Gus Hosein at the London School of Economics for the vilification they have suffered at the hands of the Government (Opinion, February 17).
Those who are convinced that they know the truth (in this case regarding their work on identity cards) are considered unreliable from a democratic point of view, since they do not accept that truth is subject to variation according to political trends. It is a form of soft totalitarianism and Davies and Hosein are right to draw our attention to it and bemoan a lack of sup-port.
