It is worth considering the pay of teaching fellows ¨C frequently with PhDs, with a great deal of expertise in teaching and who carry at least some, if not all, of the responsibilities of curriculum design and development (¡°Labour of love: huge variation in GTA pay¡±, News, 24?April). Assuming that salaries for postdoctoral research assistants and early stage teaching fellows are around ?30,000-32,000, and assuming that they work 37.5 hours a week, this would translate to a basic pay of ?16.40 per hour (not including holiday pay).

Paying graduate teaching assistants more than ?15 an hour would require paying teaching fellows more too.
