The University of East Anglia's proposal to close down drama, linguistics and modern languages is yet another example of the direction in which universities are heading, putting spreadsheets above students with little consultation ("Axe hangs over top UEA school", March 5).
The drama and languages departments give a lot more to UEA than simply another degree programme, adding to the cultural diversity of both the university and the region as a whole.
We strongly urge the university to consider the wider implications of its proposals, and to live up to its motto: "Do different."
