The quotes from New Age Thinking ("Staff unready for new age challenges, survey says", February 3) were taken out of context and imply that age stereotyping is unique to the higher education sector. The publication states that age stereotyping is a problem for society in general.

A number of higher education institutions have been taking positive steps towards developing a better understanding of the issue. In addition, the Equality Challenge Unit/Universities and Colleges Employers' Association joint Age Discrimination Working Group will be producing a series of practical guidelines on a range of age-related topics over the coming months.
