I was surprised at the number of delegates at the European Universities Association conference in Bristol last week (Opinion, THES, March 28) who thought there was widespread support for the war on Iraq in the UK. It was refreshing therefore to see that anti-war protesters had thoughtfully closed the roads outside the venue, demonstrating to our European colleagues that there was even greater common cause between the UK and the rest of Europe than they might have anticipated.
