What evidence is there that having a first or even a PhD makes you a better teacher? The comment that "students in state schools are being short-changed by not having access to the most highly qualified teachers" is simply beyond belief.

If one considers the "value added", it could be argued that many independent school students are being short-changed while their parents are being overcharged.
