Further to the welcome expression of dismay about plans to cut social sciences at Keele University by my colleagues in Cardiff Business School (Letters, March), it may be worth pointing out that Janet Finch, the vice-chancellor of Keele, and her husband, David Morgan, are both past presidents of the British Sociological Association. Sue Scott, dean of Keele's faculty of humanities and social sciences, which contains the School of Economic and Management Studies, is the current president. Could this be another reason why the BSA executive has decided not to support sociologists under threat at Keele?
