The classification of international students into five "tribes" could be applied to the wider world of education ("Accurately target foreign students or lose, sector told", 20 March).

The "Seekers" who are strongly influenced by their parents and want to secure a good job become headteachers; the power-hungry "Gekkos" who yearn to command high salaries find their niche as university vice-chancellors; the idealistic "Bonos" teach special needs; the "Kids" who lack focus are disillusioned social scientists; while the "Surfers" who are just looking for fun naturally gravitate towards the sunlit sector of further education.
