Hazel Dewart questioned the marginally higher level of subscription charged to former Natfhe members as opposed to former Association of University Teachers members of the University and College Union (Letters, September 28).
When the unions merged in June 2006, it was agreed that all national subscription bands would be harmonised over three years, a process that will be completed next year.
In addition, most former AUT members pay a supplementary local subscription to support branch/local association activity, so the gap is more apparent than real.
All of this was explained to members before they voted to support amalgamation of the unions.
