Virtual delivery needed

This year's increased demand for university places is seeing record numbers of pupils miss out. But there is a straightforward answer to catering for these extra students. Increased use of innovative technology to enable distance learning and part-time study could provide a compelling alternative.

Virtual learning allows students to view live and recorded lectures online, access course material electronically, submit assignments and network with fellow students and teachers. At many universities, the technology infrastructure is already in place to enable such learning. Now is the time to increase its use alongside more traditional teaching methods.
