I read the article on the Higher Education Funding Council for England Leadership, Governance and Management Strategic Committee's report with much amusement ("Staff loyalty key to Hefce report", November 30). "Best practice" in successful organisations is to align institutional objectives with those of their employees through the intelligent use of incentives. Sceptics should review the effect of the research assessment exercise on the behaviour of academics, managers and institutions. It's a no-brainer.
What's loyalty got to do with it?
